Incorporated in 1999, the Institute was originally located in the Virginia BioTech Research Park. Having outgrown the original location, VIFSM moved into the heart of the Virginia Commonwealth University Campus.
Congratulations to Mr. Blair Miller on receiving the Marcella F. Fierro, M.D. Outstanding Forensic Faculty Award. This award embodies the pioneering spirit of Marcella F. Fierro, M.D. who epitomizes leadership in forensic pathology and has become a legend in her profession both in Virginia and nationally.
The award is given annually to recognize the Virginia Institute of Forensic Science and Medicine faculty member who has demonstrated an outstanding and sustained effort in delivering forensic pathology education and training in their profession.
Blair Miller is a volunteer firefighter and canine search specialist with the Fairfax County [Virginia] Fire and Rescue Department. Mr. Miller has been directly involved in numerous high-profile events including the recovery of Chandra Levi, the search for remains at the Pentagon following the attacks of September Eleventh, and recovery operations in Indonesia following the aftermath of the 2004 tsunami.
Blair has been a faculty member of VIFSM for over 8 years!
